Beach Camp Counselor
Beach camp counselors lead fun, engaging, and safe beach-based activities for children in a positive outdoor environment. You’ll help create unforgettable summer experiences while ensuring camper safety, teamwork, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise daily beach activities, including games, sports, water play, and group challenges
Maintain a safe, structured, and fun environment at all times
Build positive relationships with campers, parents, and fellow staff
Enforce camp rules, safety procedures, and beach guidelines
Assist with setup, cleanup, and daily camp operations
Provide encouragement, guidance, and support to campers of all abilities
Communicate clearly with camp leadership regarding camper needs or concerns
Requirements
Must be at least 16 years old
Previous experience working with children (camp, coaching, teaching, childcare, etc.)
Strong swimming ability and comfort in lake environments – surfing experience is a plus (or willingness to learn the basics)
Ability to remain active outdoors in sun, sand, and heat for extended periods
Positive attitude, high energy, and strong leadership skills
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Ability to follow safety protocols and take direction from supervisors
CPR / First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Counselor Schedule & Availability
Our counselors love the reliable weekday camp schedule, which fits well with school, other work, vacations, and summer fun. Even if you’re only available for part of the summer or limited hours, we encourage you to apply, as we may be able to offer hours that work for you.
Good to know: New Buffalo counselors work mornings only, while St. Joseph counselors work both morning and afternoon sessions, with a break between shifts.

Afternoon Sessions (1–4p EST)
Monday–Friday only at Jean Klock Beach (St. Joseph)
